 Funding Plans

Source of financing

pros

cons

Bank loan

You will usually get a sufficient amount.

You have to pay back. They might not give you a lot.

Crowd funding

You see how many people are interested whilst getting funding

They don’t expect to be payed back. Usually don’t get a lot of funding from it.

Grant/funding (BFI)

You don’t have to pay them back.

They might not give you enough or any at all.

Private investment

You will get a lot of funding from the private party as they are interested in the project.

Difficult to get for a smaller project. You will be working for a big company and so expectations of the work will be high

Self-funding

You are in complete financial control

What you have is what you have. You take complete financial burding.

Local authority

You are being backed by the community.

You represent the local council and can’t film illegally. It has to be a project for the community

I think that bank loan, crowd funding and private investments aren’t viable ways of funding this project. This is mainly due to the fact that the project is too small scale (as it’s a student film) to attract enough interest to justify a higher budget. Also the project is non-profit so any investors will be put off due to the lack of money made. The lack of profit will also probably make me ineligible for a bank loan anyway as I could be unlikely to pay back the bank with interest. Grant and local funding are more viable options as these types of funding are intended to help smaller projects with no intention to make money on the big screen. Self-funding would be the easiest of the, all to do ad would give me complete control on what I do as there’s no expectations to not waste money.

I need to research into which form of funding is ideal for the project. This is because the project needs to be funded to create the film to the highest quality possible. I evaluated every form of funding possible so that I can make the best possible decision for the project. The budget needs to be enough to make the film to the best standard possible making this decision incredibly imporrtant.
